Day 7 – Masada, En Gedi and The Dead Sea
Scrolls

Masada |
Today our first stop was Masada.
If you are not familiar with this I suggest you read about it as the
story is very moving. Upon the mesa is a palace built by Herod the
Great. Many years after Herosds death a
Jewish community populated this area to escape the laws of the Romans. As the Romans built a ramp to the top of
Masada to conquer the Jews, 960 Jewish rebels and their families took their own
lives rather than surrender to the Roman army.
From here we traveled up the road to En Gedi . David seeked shelter and
protection from Saul in a cave in these mountains. The area was known for its springs and
streams amidst the desert in which it is located. The whole area was amazingly rough terrain
and HUGE. We couldn’t imaging climbing
thought this the way David, Saul and his armies did. To end the day we traveled to Jerusalem and
viewed the Dead Sea Scrolls along with a large model of all of Jerusalem. The scrolls were breathtaking and closed the
gap on the Bibles original existence.
